XIAN, FOODS FROM THE SILK ROAD
A Walking Food Tour

Discover the breadth and variety of China's foods. Join us on an evening stroll through the heart of an old city in search of a food culture that is uniquely Xian.

Mutton slow-cooked in a cumin-based soup.
Rose and osmanthus flavored glutinous rice cakes.
These foods are miles away from the soy sauces and stir fries that are usually associated with Chinese foods.

This tour spends its time north of the Drum Tower, along the main snack street of the Muslim Quarter before venturing into the local neighborhoods to feel and experience Xian as she was a thousand years ago.

Xian's Muslim Quarter
Home to approximately 80,000 ethnic Hui people, the Muslim Quarter is also home to the Great Mosque of Xian. Extending from the mosque is a network of alleys and sidestreets that come to live at night when food peddlers and local restaurants serve their cuisine that is an intriguing mix of Central Asian, Persian and Chinese.
